Jellyfishgarden is the web blog for Fine Artist Sarah Louise Scott.
Sarah graduated with a BA Honors in Fine Art in July 2008 and is currently practicing in her home town of Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
I am fascinated by curious parasitic forms from nature such as fungi's, algae's, spores, slice forms and rock forms.
Drawn initially because my mind finds something unquantifiable and uncontrollable about their growth and presence that intrigues me and compels me to explore.
My practice is currently located in the domain of sculpture and installation. For me the flexible idiom of installation is denotive of my subjects; growing and spreading like a virus that feeds on the host site.
I develop each piece through an explorative hands on process with materials; building up layers in obsessive repetition, echoing a growth process.
My interest in sculpture is in where it resides. Sculpture can inhabit a place, and sets up a relation to itself and a relation to that place and space that may extend beyond the visual and formal, to inhabit the cracks of a building, to attack the architecture.
My works appear to grow ambiguous and alien in the white gallery and stir suspicions that they are growing from another world and are perhaps now feeding from this one.
